Istanbul Privacy Platform

The emergence and rapid growth of new technologies and business models such as big data analysis, social networking, mobile and cloud computing, have challenged existing privacy and data protection legal frameworks and social norms. The EU and US are in the process of revising their privacy and data protection frameworks in response to the evolving IT landscape. Turkey, a rapidly developing economy with a surging digital sector, located at the intersection of East and West, of European and American influence, of traditional values and modern economy, is perfectly situated to host a discussion of the technological, legal and philosophical aspects of these developments. Launched in 2013, the Istanbul Privacy Platform will provide a venue for interdisciplinary, multicultural discussions of privacy and data protection issues both in Turkey and in the rest of the world.
